THOR is our custom-built dynamical core, a solver of the three-dimensional fluid equations on a sphere. It is the foundation and backbone of any climate or general circulation model (GCM).

This animation shows the temperature evolution at the surface obtained with our new dynamical core THOR. The physical schemes and parameters used in the model are from the Held-Suarez benchmark test (Held & Suarez 1994).
Test run with wave running through a modified Yin Yang grid. See Staniforth & Thuburn (2012, QJRMS, 138, 1) for a review of grids used in climate modeling.
We will develop three dynamical cores for THOR (Grimm, Grosheintz and Mendonca).
